Appointments

Urgent appointments

To request an urgent, same day appointment:

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use your answers to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or healthcare professional to help you.

All our staff work under strict confidentiality guidelines. Depending on your request a member of clinical staff may call you back for more details before allocating you the correct appointment or advice.

Routine appointments

Routine appointments are released daily at 10am via:

  • online – using your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) or SystmOnline to book an appointment, screening test or vaccination
  • by phoning us on 01242 539080
  • or visiting the practice in person

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use your answers to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or healthcare professional to help you.

Telephone appointments

We recognise that many things don’t require a face to face appointment. Not coming to the surgery saves you time, is more convenient for you and eases congestion in our car park. We are pleased to be able to offer telephone appointments every day.

You may be given a window of time, similar to when you book a delivery, during which the doctor will call. We respectfully ask that you ensure you are able to answer your nominated number during this time.

Receptionists do not interrupt doctors during their surgeries to answer queries, however a duty doctor is available to to triage urgent medical symptoms.

Improved access appointments

Five of your local Cheltenham GP surgeries are now working together to provide additional GP appointments for all their registered patients. They have called this group of practices the Cheltenham Peripheral Primary Care Network.

These appointments will be available to you and your family up from:

  • 4pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday
  • 8:30am to 1:30pm on Saturday

These daily appointments are pre-bookable and will be available at the following locations:

  • Sixways Clinic – London Road, Cheltenham GL52 6HS
  • Winchcombe Medical Centre, Greet Road, Winchcombe, Cheltenham GL52 6GZ
  • Cleevelands Medical Centre, Sapphire Rd, Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham GL52 7YU
  • Stoke Road, 4 Stoke Rd, Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham GL52 8RP
  • Leckhampton Surgery, 17 Moorend Park Road, Cheltenham, GL53 0LA

Urgent appointments will also be available on Saturday afternoon and all day on Sunday up until 8pm in central locations in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud.

Who will see me and how will they know about me?

All of our appointments are with a GP. With your consent, they will have full access to your medical records, so you can be assured they will be aware of any ongoing condition. If you do not wish to share your records, you will need to let your practice know, but this could limit the appointments available to you.

Please see this data sharing letter for patients. For more information, and the patient leaflet provided by SystmOne (provider of our clinical system).

How do I make an appointment?

You may wish to consider some of these other options for advice before you ring your surgery for an appointment:

Alternatively, please contact your registered surgery who will offer you the best option to meet your needs, including these new ‘Improved Access’ appointments.

Please note there will be no telephone access to your normal surgery after 18:30 on weekdays or at weekends.

Home visits

If you can make an appointment to come to the surgery it is better to do so. We have more facilities at the surgery and it is easier to examine and treat you there.

Visits are restricted to housebound patients only. If you cannot come to the surgery and need a home visit, please telephone reception on 01242 539080 who will organise for a clinician to telephone you back

Please try to telephone before 10:30am, this helps the visiting doctor to organise their visits for the day. If you require an urgent visit please tell the receptionist.

If you would like to find out more about home visits, please view our home visits policy (PDF).
