Covid Booster Update – After much anticipation and planning the Covid booster programme was finally announced in mid-September.
For the most part it was very much as we expected, with a booster planned for anyone over the age of 50 and those under 50 with specific medical conditions.
The additional piece of information that has resulted in some changes to our planned vaccination programme is that the booster can only be given 6 months after the second primary vaccination.
For most of our patients this means their booster dose will be due sometime between the end of September and the end of December.
We have 6,800 patients who will be due their booster in the coming months and have started inviting our patients to book an appointment once they become eligible for the booster at 6 months.
The clinics will begin in mid-October. This is a logistical challenge as we are sure you will understand, and we need to ensure we can still provide our day to day core surgery work as well.
If you are eligible for a Covid booster you will be contacted by text if we have a mobile phone number for you, or by letter if we don’t. The invitations will be sent as your booster becomes due. If you do need to call reception to book your appointment, we ask that you do so by calling after 2pm, Monday to Friday.
You may also receive a letter from NHS England about your booster which is causing some confusion. This system does not have access to our fire station appointments so we would advise you call reception rather than book through the national service.
Please can we request that you wait for your invitation and ask you not to call reception about your booster until you receive your invitation. If, however, you haven’t received an invitation too book you booster 2 weeks after you believe you are due, then please do call reception.
A small number of severely immunocompromised patients are due a third primary dose. If you think you may be in this group and you have not received an invitation by the end of September, please can you call reception to let us know.
