New ‘Improved Access’ Appointments
From 1 April 2018 the following practices are participating in a pilot scheme to offer SEVEN DAY access to a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointment: Leckhampton; Seven Posts; Sixways; Stoke Road; and Winchcombe Medical Centre.
This means that appointments will be available at one of the listed practices on a rotating basis outside of normal working hours. These appointments are pre-bookable through your normal practice, but please note there is no telephone access to the surgeries after 6.30pm Monday to Friday or at weekends. For urgent appointments, on Saturday afternoons and all day Sunday up until 8pm, a county-wide service will be provided from three central locations in Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester.
We hope that our patients will find these ‘Improved Access’ appointments helpful, particularly those people who need to book appointments outside of normal working hours.
For same day appointment requests please telephone reception before 11.30 am. It helps our skilled receptionists, many of whom have completed care navigation training, direct you appropriately if you can answer some basic questions and share you requirements with them. All our staff work under strict confidentiality guidelines. Depending on your request a member of clinical staff may call you back for more details before allocating you the correct appointment or advice.
We are now able to text you appointment reminders and other health promotion information.

The Changing Role of a Receptionist
Only doctor and phlebotomy appointments can be booked online at the moment. Booking with our highly skilled nursing team is complex as they all have different skills and procedures take varying lengths of time. Our receptionists are best placed to guide you to the right appointment and for this reason we ask you to call in to book with a nurse.

If you can make an appointment to come to the surgery it is better to do so. We have more facilities at the surgery and it is easier to examine and treat you there. Visits are usually restricted to housebound patients only. If you cannot come to the surgery and need a home visit, this can be requested by telephone. Please try to telephone before 10.30 am, this helps the visiting doctor to organise their visits for the day. If you require an urgent visit please tell the receptionist.
Please find below our Home Visit Policy.
Leckhampton Surgery Home Visit Policy 2018
We recognise that many things don’t require a face to face appointment. In fact several audits we have done here at Leckhampton over several years have consistently shown that about 1/3 of face to face appointments could be managed on the telephone. Not coming to the surgery saves you time, is more convenient for you and eases congestion in our car park. We are please to be able to offer telephone appointments every day. Please enquire about these at reception.
You may be give a window of time, similar to when you book a delivery, during which the doctor will call. We respectfully ask that you ensure you are able to answer your nominated number during this time.
Receptionists do not interrupt doctors during their surgeries to answer queries however a duty doctor is available for urgent same day enquiries.

Don’t forget to cancel a telephone app if you no longer need it
We aim to give you choice over which doctor you see and with 9 partners and other regular sessional doctors working with us we hope to be able to accommodate this. A couple of our doctors have recently reduced their clinical sessions which means we have had to restrict new patients registering with them. We hope you understand that we have only taken this measure to ensure that current patients have the access to those doctors that they need.
